The Youth Wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East zone has warned the Federal government to desist from further proposals that would further endanger the peace and unity of the country.
Describing the proposal for the establishment of Ruga settlement in some part of the country as divisive, the PDP Youth Leader in the zone, Comrade Chidiebere Egwu, chided the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government of allegedly initiating policies which the tendencies of destabilising the country.
He expressed dismay over the way and manner which President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has been handling the herders-farmers clash in some parts of the country.
Reiterating their unwavering commitment to oppose any obnoxious policy of the Federal Government, the youth leader alleged that the Ruga proposal was a plot to Islamise the South East and South South geopolitical zones, stressing that the agenda won’t work in the South East zone.
Egwu said: “The issue is not whether the Federal government has suspended the settlement of ruga or not, President Muhammadu Buhari should desist from any proposal which has the tendencies of dividing this country.
“We are not happy the way the incessant clashes of herders and farmers have been handled by the Federal government. And we have discovered that the South East zone has been their target, so that we will start witnessing the security challenges happening in some part of the country.
“It’s high time President Muhammadu Buhari began to know that cattle rearing is a private business not a Federal government agenda. The Buhari’s administration has displayed enough insensitivity to the sanctity of human lives in preferences to lives of cows.
“We see all these initiatives as plots to Islamise the Igbo race but we will continue to resist all the obnoxious proposals of the Federal government.”
Egwu commended the South East Governors’ Forum led by the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, and other interest groups from the zone for standing firmly against the proposal.
