The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed that African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has been discharged from hospital following the altercation at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, accusing him of repeatedly refusing to provide a statement to assist the ongoing investigation.
The police disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, and signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday.
According to the statement, Sowore and other persons affected by the incident were treated and discharged from the Police Cottage Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.
The Command said, “The Command further confirms that Mr. Sowore was discharged at about 4:30 p.m. and has since departed for Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort, where he was initially lodged.”
The police, however, said efforts to obtain his formal statement and personal account of the incident had proved unsuccessful.
“Meanwhile, efforts by the Police to obtain his formal statement and personal account of the incident proved unsuccessful, as he declined on several occasions to make a statement to assist the ongoing investigation,” the statement added.
The incident occurred on Friday at a restaurant around the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, where Sowore was reportedly involved in a fracas with some yet-to-be-identified individuals.
The Command also claimed that Sowore did not formally notify the police of his arrival in Ekiti State or communicate his movements within the state, saying such notification would have enabled it to make adequate security arrangements.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The police said, “The Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the incident, with a view to establishing the circumstances surrounding it, identifying all persons involved and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.”
The Command further reassured the public that the security situation in Ado-Ekiti and its environs remained calm, adding that intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations were ongoing in identified black spots.
It urged residents to disregard sensational and unverified reports circulating on social media and rely on credible information from official sources.
The police reiterated their commitment to providing adequate security for residents, visitors and political stakeholders, irrespective of their political affiliations or status.
