A suspected cable vandal in the early hours of today, Sunday, June 23, died from electrocution in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that the deceased wanted to vandalise one of EEDC transformer installation in the community when the armoured cable he was trying to steal exploded and electrocuted him instantly.
A statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, said that the police patrol team led by the DPO Aguata Division, SP Ayeni Oluwadare, visited the scene of the incident and rushed the victim to the General Hospital Aguata where he was confirmed dead on arrival by the medical doctor.
He said that EEDC office was contacted, and the corpse was photographed and deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
In a follow-up statement this afternoon, Mohammed said that one Mrs Eunice Mmoma from Oraifite in Ekwusigo local government, in company of Mr Emmanuel Ofor of Ezinifite, who claimed to be the owner of Onyoko Ministry Church in Ezinifite Community later came to identify the deceased vandal as Onyenka Adennu, also an indigene of Oraifite.
He said the woman claimed that the victim was her brother and had mental problem before his death.
Mrs Mmoma, according to the PPRO, further explained that both of them came for a church programme at Ezinifite on Saturday, and that the programme ended at about 02:00am today, after which the victim disappeared and all efforts to get him proved abortive.
The PPRO said that efforts are ongoing to ascertain the veracity of her claims.
