The Police command in Bauchi State, says it has apprehended a 26-year-old man, over alleged impersonation of Nigerian Army personnel.
The suspect (names withheld) was also detained over alleged car theft.
Mr Nafiu Habib, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, said this in a statement on Friday in Bauchi.
He said that operatives of the command apprehended the suspect following a petition by one Salisu, a resident of Gida Dubu area of Bauchi metropolis.
Habib said that the suspect contacted the petitioner on Oct. 18, seeking employment as a driver at his sachet water factory.
He said that the petitioner invited the suspect for an interview and driving assessment on Oct. 19.
Habib said that the suspect allegedly attacked the factory owner and his neighbour’s son during the assessment on Oct. 22, before fleeing with the car.
“The stolen vehicle with registration number AE 278 ALK, was recovered from the suspect in Jos, Plateau,” he said.
Habib said that the operatives also recovered a stolen mobile phone, military uniforms, a jungle hat, a raincoat, a camouflage vest and a sweater from the suspect.
He said preliminary investigation showed that the suspect was allegedly parading himself as a Private John Shehu, with service number NA/22/82/1064, attached to the 7 Division, Maimalari Barrack, 134 Special Forces Battalion, Borno.
The spokesman said that the suspect would be charged to court on completion of investigation. (NAN)
