Justice Yusuff Halilu-led three-man panel has suspended, till next Monday, the sitting of the Ogun State Election Petition Tribunal on petition number EPT/GOV/01/2019 following the alleged threat to the lives of the petitioner, Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) and his witnesses.
After calling three witnesses, Counsel to the Petitioner, Sebastine Hon, at the sitting on Wednesday informed the panel that he could not go on with the trial again because of threats to the lives of his witnesses.
He further called the attention of the Tribunal to the presence of some party members who were dressed in yellow caps alleging that they were in court to identify the witnesses and attack them.
Hon further informed the court that the life of his client, Akinlade, was no safer, saying the State Police Commissioner had withdrawn his security details.
It will be recalled that the Chairman of Labour Party (LP) in Ogun State, Comrade Abayomi Arabanbi had also written the President of the Court of Appeal to relocate the sitting of the Tribunal to Abuja over threat to his life on his petition number EPT/OG/GOV/03/2019.
Both APM and Labour parties are challenging the victory of Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last governorship election in the State.
