Edo Police Commissioner Danmallam Mohammed
The Edo State Police at the weekend in Benin explained how four members of the dreaded Boko Haram Islamic sect were nabbed at Auchi, Etsako West local government area of the state.
In a statement by the spokesman, Mr Chidi Nwanbuzor, he said that their arrest was based on credible intelligence from the Department State Security (DSS) in conjunction with the office of the Inspector General of Police which alerted them of the plan by criminal elements to launch coordinated attacks against the police formations in the state.
Determined to nip the planned attack in the bud, Nwanbuzor, a deputy superintendent of police said that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Danmallam Mohammed, directed the tactical teams of the command to go after the criminals who double as kidnappers.
He added that on Friday, April 19, raiding, coding and search was conducted within the Auchi axis which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.
Nwanbuzor noted: “They are the deadly and notorious gang members of kidnapping and armed robbery syndicate that are terrorising Kogi and Edo States axis.”
He added that an old carton Toyota Valet car marked AG-721-AGZ which contained one pump action gun, two locally made guns, 20 live cartridges, a pair of Police Mobile Force, uniform, two face masks and charms were recovered from them.
He advised people to be vigilant and always be at alert about suspicious movement of persons and report same to the police.
