Late Ikedife
The stage is now set for a day of tribute in honour of late President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, who passed away on December 11, 2018, in his country home, Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Dignitaries expected at the event include President Muhammadu Buhari; his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo; Minister for Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu; the State Governor, Willie Obiano; the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Peter Obi; and Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General, Chief Nnia Nwodo, among others.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the family, the first son of the late patriarch, Mr Dozie Ikedife Jnr., said the ceremony would kick off by 12:00 p.m. today, Friday, April 5, 2019, at Anaedo Hall, Nnewi.
On why the event is tagged ‘Day of Tribute’ instead of funeral ceremony, Ikedife Jnr. said there was no much distinction between funeral ceremony and day of tribute since the activities to mark the events are the same.
He added: “A lot of things are done according to my father’s wishes.”
Recall that the late Ohanaeze President was buried the following day after his demise without any gunshot according to his wish, while his funeral rites were shifted to April 5, 2019.
According to Ikedife Jnr., the First Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazuruike Amechi, will be the chairman of the occasion.
