Former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Campaign Council, Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, has begun mobilising Islamic clerics in the state for the President’s re-election bid.

Speaking at his residence in Talata Mafara, his hometown, Yari urged Imams from 2,933 Juma’at mosques across Zamfara and other Islamic leaders to support Tinubu and use their influence to promote peace, unity and political understanding ahead of the 2027 elections.

The meeting was part of Yari’s ongoing consultations with political, traditional and religious stakeholders in the state ahead of the election.

Yari said Tinubu’s decision to entrust him with leadership of the campaign council was a great honour for the region, adding that the responsibility demanded collective support for the President.

“The President has done us a great honour by entrusting one of our own with this responsibility. We will never take it for granted,” he said.

He urged clerics and other stakeholders to view the campaign as a national responsibility rather than a personal political project.

“This is not a personal business; it is the business of Nigeria,” Yari said.

The former governor also appealed to Nigerians to protect the country’s unity, arguing that Tinubu had shown political support for leaders from different parts of Nigeria, including former President Muhammadu Buhari.

He therefore urged people from the North to reciprocate what he described as Tinubu’s past support for the region by backing his bid for another term in office.

Yari further charged clerics to use their platforms to preach peace, tolerance and harmony, particularly as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.

He said the campaign council would continue engaging with stakeholders and the electorate until the election, expressing confidence that Tinubu would emerge victorious. (The Nation)
