Incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike appears headed for victory in the resumed collation of results from the Rivers State governorship election, which is underway in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The collation is being co-ordinated by Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Obo Effanga, amidst tight security.
Results from 10 local government areas so far collated show Governor Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leading with a widening gap. He won eight of the local government areas so far declared as at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with his closest challenger, Engr. Biokpomabo Awara of theAfrican Action Congress (AAC), winning only in Oyigbo and Akuku Toru.
The collation is presently on break, to resume at 2:45 p.m., according to REC Effanga.
Below are the results so far for the two leading contenders in the governorship race in which the federal-ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is banned by the courts due to internal wrangling:
