Anambra Police spokesperson, SP Haruna Mohammed
The Anambra State Police Command on Tuesday dismissed a media report on one of the national dailies which stated that some serving policemen, retired police officers and their wives protested alleged attempt to eject them from their residential quarters by people who claimed to be working for the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
The Command described the report as not only misleading but mischievous, adding that such building was neither a police property nor barracks accommodation.
A statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar, said that no serving policemen are presently occupying the said building as claimed by the reporter.
The statement reads in part: “The attention of the Anambra State Police Command has been drawn to a publication in page 15 of today’s Vanguard Newspaper on the caption, “Police reject ejection from quarters in Onitsha”, that some serving policemen, retired police officers and their wives protested alleged attempt to eject them from their residential quarters by people who claimed to be working for the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
“There is no documentary evidence to show that such building was allocated to the Police Force as barracks or residential quarters hence anybody occupying such building does so illegally.”
Mohammed urged the general public to disregard such report as untrue, diversionary and distortion of facts.
