A heavily pregnant internally displaced woman has been found dead along the railway line in Mokwa town, headquarters of Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
A resident of Mokwa, Malam Mohammed Umaru, told Daily Trust that the woman was attacked and stabbed to death around 8am on Sunday when she went into the bush to fetch Cassia Tora, popularly known as ‘Tafasa’ in Hausa, to prepare breakfast.
He said the victim was among the displaced persons recently forced to flee Kwara communities due to terrorist attacks.
The victim, alongside other IDPs, reportedly lived in an uncompleted building behind Dufya Primary School.
“The woman is an internally displaced person due to bandits’ attacks. They live in an uncompleted building close to Dufya Primary School.
“She left the camp to get ‘Tafasa’ which they often eat. She did not return and people went in search for her and found her dead. Her stomach was cut and baby was removed. Only God knows who did that,” he said.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, did not respond to a message sent to him, as of the time of filing this report. (Weekend Trust:, excluding headline)
