Former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has commended the judiciary for the release, last week, of over 100 women held over their protest in Owerri, Imo State capital, on the whereabouts of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and his parents.

Obi, who frowned at the women being labelled “Miscreants”, said such labelling was only a cover to justify their arrest. Obi said they should be seen simply as “Nigerian women who protested over what they saw, rightly or wrongly, as an aberration.” He added that their protest should be seen as “the expression of their rights within a civilised society.”

Regretting the state of the nation, Obi said Nigeria had been raped by successive governments that if not for the “insane complacency” of Nigerians, the country would have been witnessing daily protest over one wrong or the other.

Commending Nigerians for their patience, he advised her leaders to make extra efforts to restore the glory of the country to avoid similar protests in future.
