It was a bleak morning for commercial bus and taxi people in Lagos who operated from the popular Ojodu Berger Motor Park located beside the first Lagos discharging point for long distance buses coming from other parts of the country.
A Correspondent of News Express who visited the area reports that the park and the makeshift market located opposite it were dismantled this morning by officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment assisted by fierce-looking armed policemen.
“The bus and taxi people have been driven away as part of efforts by the Babatunde Fashola administration to make Lagos a mega city. The market opposite the park has also been sacked,” the correspondent said.
He reported that “while the drivers have moved to the place some distance away designated as their new motor park, crowds of displaced traders could be seen roaming about helplessly or lamenting their fate.”
The correspondent added that “armed policemen are patrolling the area to ensure compliance while an armoured tank belonging to the Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has been parked in the former motor park apparently to scare away potential trouble makers.”
