Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) has condemned the unfortunate attack on students of Government Girls’ Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State by suspected Gboko Haram assailants describing it as primitive and wicked.
The human rights organisation therefore called on the Government, the security agencies and citizens to intensify all necessary efforts to immediately rescue all the missing students whose whereabouts became uncertain after the attack on the school.
CDHR attributed the attack to the apparent lack of security in schools, especially in the North-East, and other parts of the country, even at a time when the country is challenged with the incidence of insecurity, adding “the tragic experience of the Chibok school girls must be avoided; the missing Dapchi girls must be found and rescued.”
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Henry Peter Ekine, and made available to the Press, CDHR decried the level to which schools have become unsafe and insecure for children to study.
It called for a national emergency on security for schools and school children while tasking the Police and other security agencies to be more proactive and sensitive to the protection of the lives of children in schools in the North-East that has remained volatile since the emergence of the Boko Haram group.
The foremost human rights organisation empathised with the students, management and parents of Government Girls’ Technical College, Dapchi.
It advised the Federal and Yobe State Governments and the security agencies to deploy all necessary efforts to ensure the immediate rescue of the missing girls.
CDHR also called on the Government to intensify security in and around schools in all the states.
