Boko Haram insurgents
Suspected members of the Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Dapchi community in Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State, North-East Nigeria.
Located 100km north of Damaturu, the state capital, Dapchi is the headquarters of Bursari local government area.
He said “at about 5:30 p.m. today, the suspected insurgents attacked Dapchi, headquarters of Bursari local government area.
“The details are not immediately available, we are still collating the details including the casualties” he said.
The commissioner said security operatives have been reinforced in the area to ensure total security.
NAN gathered that the residents of Dapchi fled the town to seek for safety in the bush.
Alhaji Zanna Abatcha, chairman Bursari local government council told NAN that the suspected insurgents have already left the town and more security operatives have been deployed to maintain security.
“The details are not known yet because it’s already night, we will get the comprehensive details tomorrow,” he said.
Until yesterday, Dapchi remained one major town that had not recorded an attack by the terrorists since the start of the insurgency in the troubled region.
The community was attacked just threes after three female suicide bombers stormed a fish market with IEDs strapped on their bodies in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had confirmed that 17 persons were killed while about 50 others were injured during the attack which took place on Friday last week.
Amid recent attacks by the outlawed group in the region, the military insisted that the Boko Haram insurgents have been completely defeated.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicholas, made the declaration on February 3 at an event in Maiduguri.
“My soldiers are in the heart of Boko Haram enclave – that is Camp Zairo. The gallant troops have taken total control of Sambisa forest. We have broken the heart and soul of Shekau’s group, taking over the camp and its environs,” Nicholas had said.
Also speaking on Thursday last week while inaugurating a Surveillance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) produced locally by the Nigerian Air Force, President Muhammadu Buhari assured Nigerians of the Federal Government’s commitment to ending the insurgency.
The President said his administration was working tirelessly to tackle other related crimes across the country, and to restore Nigeria on the part of economic prosperity.
