The Anglican Church in Anambra State, in apparent anger for the use its name in political campaigns, on Sunday cautioned political parties and their candidates in the line-up for the November 18 governorship election to cease from drawing the church into partisan politics, saying that the action was abhorred by its leadership.

In a statement made available to journalists in Awka by the Laity Council, Anglican Communion in the state and signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samson Okonkwo, the church said: “It has come to the notice of the Anglican Church that some candidates of political parties are using the name of the Church to score political points.

“Such candidates are going about informing their followers and indeed the general public that they consulted the leadership of church in choosing their gubernatorial running mates thereby giving the impression that the Anglican Church supports their partisan interest.

“We are constrained to use this medium to advise candidates of political parties to restrain from drawing the church into partisan politics which is abhorred in its entirety by the leadership of the church.”

The church however said it will continue on their part to pray for all candidates in the November 18, 2017 governorship election adding y that it is God that will choose the next Governor of the state.

While praying for a peaceful election, the church called on Anambrarians to ensure full participation in the on-going political process in the state.
