Governor Okowa
There was excitement and jubilation in Delta State when recently Governor Ifeanyi Okowa gave a lifeline to Master Wisdom Geofoeyin, a 12 years boy, suffering from Ossifying Fibroma tumour at the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.
Father of the boy, Mr. Omadina Geofoeyin, a retired teacher and a native of Omadina in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, who resides in Niger State, while narrating his ordeal, explained that he noticed the strange growth on the face of Master Wisdom in 2014, but it became noticeable in 2015.
He stressed that the excruciating pains, difficulty in breathing and the sleepless nights that Wisdom passed through, due to the growth that later take over his face, become a source of worry to members of the his family.
Mr. Omadina told Journalists that they visited different hospitals in Sokoto and Minna, Niger State, where series of medical tests were conducted, but there was no money to foot the bills, especially that of the surgery.
He explained further that he ran into the Delta State Governor at a town hall meeting held in Oghara, where the Governor recommend his son to the Oral and Maxillofacial department of the Delta State University Teaching Hospital and surgery was subsequently carried out.
Master Wisdom, while speaking to newsmen, thanked Gov. Okowa for saving his life. He told journalists that he was driven out of school, because of the strange growth in his face in 2014 as his classmates became scared to sit with him in class. That later resulted to his being isolated.
“I travelled to Port Harcourt with my father and we stopped over in a hotel. The hotel attendant walked close and asked me to walk out of the hotel because of my facial appearance that looked grotesque. I was to write my JSS3 Examination but because of the swollen face, the school authority asked my parents to keep me at home for fear of infecting other students.
The Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Onome Ogueh, expressed delight that DELSUTH was able to handle the case of Master
Wisdom, while thanking the Governor on his resolved to make the hospital best of his kind.
A Consultant, Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Mabel Etetafia who spoke to newsmen after the surgery expressed happiness about the outcome of the surgery, stressing that after some treatments that need to be effected on Master Wisdom, he can go about his normal activities to actualise his dream in life.
