The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has announced the detection of two additional suspected cases of Ebola disease in Nigeria’s North-East region, with both individuals placed in isolation as health authorities conduct laboratory investigations.
In an Ebola response update issued on Saturday, October 31, 2026, the agency disclosed that contact tracing had commenced to identify individuals who may have been exposed to the suspected cases.
The NCDC stated that laboratory testing was underway to determine whether the two individuals had contracted the disease.
“Two suspected cases of Ebola disease have been identified in Nigeria’s North-East region. Both individuals have been isolated, contact tracing is ongoing, and laboratory testing is being conducted,” the agency announced.
The development comes amid heightened attention to Ebola surveillance and preparedness in Nigeria, with public health authorities seeking to detect potential infections and prevent further transmission.
Although the NCDC described the cases as additional suspected infections, its announcement did not disclose the states where the individuals were identified or provide details about their ages, travel histories or possible sources of exposure.
The agency also did not specify the total number of suspected cases recorded nationwide or indicate when laboratory results would become available.
Importantly, the two cases remain suspected rather than laboratory-confirmed infections, according to the update.
The NCDC urged Nigerians to maintain good personal hygiene, strengthen sanitation practices and comply with guidance issued by public health authorities.
“The public is advised to maintain good hand hygiene, practise enhanced sanitation and follow guidance from public health authorities,” the agency stated.
It also assured Nigerians that further information would be released as investigations progressed and verified details became available.
“Further updates will be provided as more verified information becomes available,” the NCDC said.
The announcement underscores the importance of surveillance and early detection in responding to suspected infectious disease cases, particularly where laboratory confirmation is still pending.
With both suspected patients isolated and contact tracing underway, health authorities are working to establish the status of the cases and identify any potential exposure.
The NCDC has not announced additional containment measures or restrictions in connection with the two suspected cases.
