Azazi, Defence Minister Sacked Over Boko Haram

Nigeria’s President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has finally sacked National Security Adviser, Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi (rdt) and Defence Minister, Haliru Bello Mohammed, according to a report credited to presidential spokesman, Dr. Rueben Abati.

Abati was quoted as saying on Friday evening that Azazi has been “dropped and replaced by Sambo Dasuki.” He did not either pick his calls or respond to a text message sent to him by Transport & Business Express seeking further details.

Transport & Business Express understands that the two security chiefs were relieved of their duties due to their failure to contain the Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram.

President Jonathan had earlier in the year boasted that Boko Haram would be history by this month (June) but the reverse has been the case, with the group intensifying its attacks in its northern strongholds.

A member of the Sokoto/Muslim ruling house, Sambo Dasuki is a retired colonel who once served as Aide de Camp (ADC) to former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd). He is the son of Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, who deposed as Sultan of Sokoto by late military dictator, General Sani Abacha.
