A cloud of fear has taken over Umuayom village in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State following the death of a youth who was said to have been beaten to a pulp by policemen invited by his father.
Youths in the community, on hearing the news of the deceased simply identified as Chibuzo, went on the rampage, burning tyres and other valuables to protest the death of their friend.
It was said that the deceased, who is the only son of his parents, had broughta woman who was said to be older than him as his future partner, a decision his father did not support.
Our correspondent learnt that the deceased had had a failed marriage that produced a child, but he decided to remarry after separation from the first wife.
“He was disappointed when his father refused to give his approval for the marriage.
“As the rift between him and his father escalated, the father invited men in uniform, which resulted in Chibuzi getting angry and in a rage poured hot water on his father,” the source narrated.
According to the source, the action of the deceased resulted in his being beaten up by the Police, and was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
While confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Princess Nkeiruka Nwode said police had been deployed to the scene, adding that the woman that the deceased wanted to marry had been rescued.
