A fresh crisis has hit the of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with a new management committee inaugurated by the party’s defeated governorship candidate, Senator Chris Ngige, announcing the suspension of Senator Annie Okonkwo, the interim Deputy National Chairman of the party (South).
Okonkwo and Mr. Chuks Chinwuba, the factional chairman of the party in the state, were yesterday suspended by the Ngige faction for alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced by the Anambra APC interim executive committee chairman, Chief Amaechi Obidike, shortly the committee was inaugurated by Ngige in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
A communiqué issued at the end of the maiden meeting of the committee, said a three-member panel had been constituted to investigate the charges of anti-party activities leveled against Okonkwo and Chinwuba.
A communiqué read by Obidike said: “We have found their conduct to be reprehensible and embarrassing and have put the party in contempt, public ridicule and disrepute.
“The anti-party activities have continued with their unguarded and unauthorised utterances about the proposed Anambra local government elections.
“Their utterances is sowing a seed of discord and hatred among party members.”
Inaugurating the committee, Ngige had criticised Okonkwo for claiming in some national dailies that APC would participate in the January 11 Anambra council polls which the Ngige faction has vowed to boycott.
