The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has condemned the sack of all the commissioners and 27 Transition Chairmen in Imo State by Governor Rochas Okorocha following their compliance, on May 30, with IPOB’s sit-at home order issued by the group’s leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement signed by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group said that its intelligence unit discovered that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had mandated Okorocha to do all he could to stop the sit-at-home protest.

The statement reads: “To his greatest surprise, he could not stop the sit-at home and remembrance of our foreign heroes and heroines on May 30, 2017.

“In line with this, Okorocha mandated his commissioners and his local government transition chairmen in all the villages and communities to sensitise them towards boycotting the exercise at all cost.

“Unfortunately, those mandated to do so could not do it because power belongs to the masses and not those in government.

“The tremendous total compliance in Imo State particularly in Owerri and other Biafran land marveled the governor of Imo State and other APC members both in South East and South South.

“It is very pathetic that Okorocha had to belittle himself to this level by going from house to house and from one market to the other calling people to come out and open their shops on that faithful day Biafrans were celebrating and honouring those who paid the ultimate price during the great war in the history against the people of Biafra between 1967 and 1970.”
