Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has warned aspirants to political offices against resorting to violence or ethnic sentiments to achieve their goal as such could only breed chaos and anarchy.

Uduaghan gave the warning over the weekend at a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in Warri North Local Government Area. He urged the aspirants to endear themselves to the people by their words, deeds and actions, reiterating that whoever will emerge winner in an election must be through the ballot box and not because of the ethnic group they belong.

The governor declared that power belongs to God Almighty, saying that no matter the violence one employs or the ethnic sentiments resorted to, whoever God decides emerges winner at the end of the day.

Speaking earlier when he paid a courtesy visit on the Olaraja (leader) of Koko community, Chief Victor Nana, Dr. Uduaghan charged youth councils, youth committees of communities and traditional rulers across the state not to get their different institutions involved in partisan politics.

His words: “Community issues should be devoid of political leanings while the affairs of youth councils or traditional institutions should be devoid of politics.

“The youth bodies should report to the different traditional institutions in their communities and such bodies and institutions should be insulated from partisan politics in the interest of peace and stability of the communities.”

The governor charged persons interested in politics or in holding political offices not to hide under community youth platforms or traditional institutions stressing but to feel free to excise themselves from such bodies to play partisan politics.

He disclosed that the dualisation of the 36-kilometre Ugbenu/Koko Road will be completed and commissioned in 2014, noting that the road is strategic as it will facilitate the movement of goods from the Koko Port to other parts of the country.

Uduaghan disclosed plans by his administration to set up community-based committees to manage different water projects in different communities in the state.

While noting that his administration has recorded successes in the area of water supply, the governor emphasised that the water committees are essential to ensure that the projects last through proper maintenance and management.

In his remarks at the rally, the state chairman of PDP, Barrister Peter Nwaoboshi, described Warri North as unique to the party as it yields high number of votes to PDP and also produced Governor Uduaghan.

In his welcome address, the Warri North PDP Chairman, Mr. John Okoroloko, stressed the need for the party to be repositioned ahead of the 2015 general elections.
