Imo amnesty committee head, Mrs Nkechi Okorocha
Youths of oil communities in Imo State, from Awarra Court Area of Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area in the state, yesterday, alleged that the activities of the amnesty committee headed by Nkechi Okorocha, was “one sided.” The President of Awarra Court Area Youth Council, ACAYOC, Marcellinus Enyia, stated this while speaking to Vanguard in Owerri. He argued that those considered to be representing the Awarra Court Area were because of their “political alignment” and that the “engagement process is not all inclusive.”
It was his view that there was no proper consultation with the “genuine leaders” of the communities, according to him, who understood the level of their suffering and what their priority should be. He said: “The committee never engaged with the leaders and stakeholders of Awarra Court Area to know how a sustainable peace will be achieved in the area.
“Up till now, there is no defined blueprint of reintegration programme for the entire people of Awarra Court Area, which has been traumatised by armed conflict.
“We should not be talking of only militants but those their buildings were destroyed, their businesses damaged and some families lost their breadwinners.
“We, therefore, call for a review of the committee’s engagement process to speed up actualisation of the mission and vision for which the committee was set up for.” (Vanguard)
