A first class paramount traditional ruler in Osun State, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdul-Rasheed Akanbi, has urged the Federal Government to do more in ensuring adequate funding of the Nigerian Police Force guarantee safety of lives and property in the country.
He observed that proper and adequate funding of the police would encourage professionalism among the policemen and curtail the instances of policemen demanding or accepting bribery while performing their duties.
He noted that the policemen in the country have been outstanding in combating crime despite of the poor remuneration.
His words: “The policemen in this country are underpaid. The Federal Government should take a cue from the developed countries where security jobs are the envy of many and the pay is very attractive, thereby restricting the security operatives from demanding or accepting bribe or being corrupt.”
The monarch lauded the Nigerian Police Force for ensuring efficient and adequate security in the country and commended the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, for his pragmatic leadership, urging the IGP to remain committed to the service to the nation.
Oluwo also applauded the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, for making it difficult for criminals to operate in Osun since he was posted to the state.
The monarch who gave the commendation in a chat with our correspondent today noted that the professionalism displayed by the IGP and Osun CP was noteworthy and must be appreciated.
He said: “I like to state unequivocally that this country was lucky to have Mr Ibrahim Idris as Inspector General of Police. He has proven himself more than capable of achieving excellent results in the NPF as manifested in the way he is managing the Nigerian Police at the moment.”
“I must also state that the Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr Fimihan Adeoye is a man of integrity and he is doing his job with full commitment and professionalism.
“The Osun State Police Command has recorded huge success under CP Adeoye and we all see it. The arrest of criminals who were apprehended by the police has sent signal to the would-be criminal to stay away from Osun.”
The Oluwo said he deemed it fit to appreciate these individuals for doing great job in securing the lives and properties of Nigerian and urged them to do more for their fatherland.
