Abia First Lady advocates vibrant NCWS

Abia First Lady Nkechi Ikpeazu

Wife of the Governor of Abia State, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, has charged leaders of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) at the state and local government levels to seek ways of injecting new life into the group to make it proactive.

She said that a proactive leadership would be capable of steering the organisation with a clear vision and embarking on activities and programmes that would promote womenfolk.

Mrs. Ikpeazu gave the charge at Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, during an interactive meeting with the NCWS State and Local Government Executives.

She said that the meeting was to seek ways of making the group vibrant in the state.

Mrs. Ikpeazu stressed that NCWS is a non-partisan organisation and that a pressure group was capable of influencing policies in favour of women. She advised the members to work closely in order to achieve their goals.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Lady Chinedu Brown, had noted that NCWS was founded with the intention of bringing together non-partisan women organisations to assist women become nation builders and good home makers.

She lamented that poor leadership has made the association drift from its original objectives and goals.

Also, the House of Assembly Committee Chairman on Women Affairs and member representing Aba North State Constituency, Mrs. Blessing Nwagba, thanked the wife of the Governor for her efforts to boost sensitisation of women and expressed hope that the meeting would make the association stronger.

A statement from Nwamaka Mauchukwu, Chief Information Officer, Government House, Umuahia, says that the meeting featured goodwill messages from state leaders of NCWS and a question-and-answer session.
