Chiedu Uche Okoye
(For airmen and others who died in air crash in Igbokoda, Ondo state on October 5, 2026)
By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE
Our metal bird of the air
Its arsenal of claws was bare
The sight of which awoke fear
From its lair it held dear
The roving king of the airspace
Gliding soaring dipping over our place
To muffle us in protective arm
Against the enemies’ harm
In your belly were contents so priceless
Death cared less about it, nonetheless
The black Monday was the date
To end in aqueous space was their fate
Thirty-two souls in hurried departure
Brought to an end their bloom in nature
So our hearts become broken calabash
Not mending with dangled cash
The air jaunt aborted in first trimester
In water that dimmed the stars luster
Heavens plucked the unripe best
To fill holes of earth’s thirst
