SURCON President, Surveyor Akinwande
The President of the Surveyors’ Council of Nigeria (SURCON), Surveyor Moshood Akinwande, has advised Ogun State residents and general public to always patronise registered Surveyors, especially those registered by the Surveyors’ Council of Nigeria before embarking on any land transaction in the state.
Surveyor Akinwande stated this in Abeokuta during his 2-day working visit to the state on the invitation of the Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Ogun State Branch, Surveyor Abiodun Liadi.
He noted that the power to make surveying laws hitherto vested with the state governments and House of Assemblies, now domiciled with the Surveyors’ Council of Nigeria, pledging to strengthen advocacy efforts aimed at educating the public on the benefits of patronising registered surveyors.
The SURCON National President said that parts of the Council’s functions was to register Surveyors, regulate the profession of surveying in all ramifications and to discipline erring Surveyors.
He encouraged members of the Association to extensively adopt the modern technologies and conform to the reputation and perfect image of the Surveying Profession.
“Indeed, it is imperative to talk about the need for advocacy and public awareness and the enhancement of our professionalism and ethics, as well to let the general public know about the benefits of patronising registered surveyors in the country,” Surv. Akinwande said.
SURCON President noted that many surveyors still rely on outdated equipment or methods thereby limiting efficiency and also the scope of services, advising them to key into modern technologies in order to blend to global standards ease of doing their jobs.
His visit which coincided with the investiture ceremony of the Chairman of Geoinformation Society of Nigeria, GEOSON, Surveyor Quadri Rabiu where he was a Guest of Honour, was rounded off with a parley with the Body of Fellows of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, Ogun State.
