The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has called for an emergency congress in Abuja following the resignation of President Ibrahim Gusau and his executive committee on Thursday following immense pressure from the National Sports Commission (NSC).

Feelers from reliable source told our correspondent that “the congress is expected to set aside the September 27, 2026 NFF elections slated for Lafia, Nasarawa state” with a normalisation committee to be set up and run the administration of football in the country before a fresh polls is conducted

Meanwhile, following the resignation of the NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi on Thursday, the federation Deputy General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, is now the Acting General Secretary until a substantive person is appointed.

It was gathered that Dr. Sanusi on Thursday officially handed over the baton to Ikpeme in Abuja.

His appointment is part of measures to maintain the day-to-day operations of the football governing body pending the next phase of the federation’s administrative process.

Ikpeme is expected to oversee the NFF Secretariat and coordinate its daily activities while the federation awaits further developments concerning the proposed Normalisation Committee to be named by NSC.

A respected administrator and academic, Ikpeme brings considerable experience to the position.

He lectured at the University of Calabar for several years before serving as the sole administrator of the Cross River State Sports Council, where he gained further experience in sports administration.

He joined the NFF In 2007 when he was appointed Deputy Secretary-General (technical), a position he held before rising to become Deputy General Secretary in March 2015. (Blueprint)
