A former Gombe State Governor and Senator representing Gombe Central, Senator Danjuma Goje, has reaffirmed his commitment to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that he remains a member of the party and will support its success ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Goje made the declaration while featuring on the BBC Hausa programme “Shirin Hantsi,” broadcast on Tuesday.

The former governor’s statement comes amid recent speculation over his political future, particularly following the emergence of DCP Mohammed Ahmadu (rtd) as the APC candidate for Gombe Central.

There had been reports and political speculation suggesting that Goje was being courted by opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Also, thousands of his supporters had on Saturday gathered at his Gombe residence to reaffirm their loyalty and seek direction on their next political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, appearing on the BBC Hausa programme, the former governor clarified his position, reiterating that he remained in the APC and pledged to continue working for its success, dismissing speculation about a defection to another party.

“I have not defected to any political party. As a founding member of the APC, I remain a member of the party. Given my years of service and the positions I have held in the country, it would be inappropriate for me, at this stage of my life, to decamp to another party simply to contest for the Senate. However, it would have been a different ball game if I were contesting for a higher position,” he said. (Daily Trust)
