Abducted Borno pupils
Sixty-two days after the abduction of 42 pupils of Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Borno State, their parents said they are still waiting anxiously for news of their children’s whereabouts.
The pupils, including toddlers, were abducted on May 15, 2026, from their classrooms in Mussa community, Askira/Uba Local Government Area.
Parents, who spoke with Daily Trust, said no group has claimed responsibility for the abduction and no ransom demand has been made.
One of the parents said the uncertainty has left families traumatised.
“We have barely slept since the day our children were abducted. We constantly think about the conditions they are facing in captivity.
“My wife and other mothers have hardly slept since the incident happened, and we have not heard anything about our children,” he said.
However, a source told Daily Trust that the Borno State Government had contacted some of the affected families and assured them that efforts were ongoing to secure the children’s release.
“The families were asked to remain patient and avoid unnecessary comments. They were assured they would soon be reunited with their children,” the source said.
When contacted, the Borno State Commissioner for Education, Science and Innovation, Engr. Abba Lawan Wakilbe, declined to comment, describing the matter as a security issue.
“I can’t tell you beyond what you already know. It’s a security matter, so please contact the security agencies,” he said. (Daily Trust)
