The environmental sanitation officials of Kosofe Local Government on Saturday sealed several houses and shops on Salami and Olorunfunmi streets for violating environmental sanitation regulations.
This is as the Lagos State Government stepped up its environmental sanitation campaign in council as the Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, joined residents and officials in the monthly exercise.
The Nation gathered that the exercise began at the council secretariat and moved through Olopo Meji Junction in Oworonshoki, where Agoro and the Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Moyosore Ogunlewe, participated in clearing refuse while monitoring compliance.
Agoro said public participation had improved as residents realised the sanitation exercise was not one-off initiative.
“Some people thought it was going to be a one-off. Now that they know it is not, I’m seeing more people coming out,” he said.
The Head of Service, who was seen clearing refuse on several streets, said the action was intended to encourage residents to emulate government officials and maintain cleaner surroundings.
“You can’t wait for government to pick the dirt you put on the road. When we travel abroad, people don’t throw waste on the streets. We need to educate ourselves and take responsibility,” he added.
Ogunlewe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustained environmental advocacy, stressing that the government alone cannot keep the community clean.
He urged residents to actively participate in future sanitation exercises, saying collaboration between government and the public is essential to maintaining a clean, safe and habitable Kosofe. (The Sun)
