The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) are set to introduce a new framework to make candidates’ data changes more seamless and efficient.

The NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, disclosed this when he received the JAMB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Segun Aina, in his office in Abuja.

According to a press statement by the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, General Nafiu reaffirmed the Scheme’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with JAMB in the interest of the public.

He congratulated Professor Aina on his appointment, noting that his experience as a former corps member who served with JAMB, alongside his wealth of professional experience, would contribute significantly to his success in the new role.

The NYSC DG described JAMB as a foremost partner in the mobilisation process, providing the Scheme with the primary data required for the online registration of prospective Corps Members.

“We thank the management of JAMB for their support over the years. We believe so much in the credibility of JAMB, and we have enjoyed seamless API data sharing with JAMB,” Nafiu said.

On his part, Professor Aina called for deeper collaboration between JAMB and the NYSC to optimise the services available to Corps Members and add greater value to their service experience.

Aina, who spoke about his personal experience as a corps member, said the national service significantly influenced his career choices and prepared him for his current responsibility as JAMB registrar.

He explained that JAMB would continue to maintain strict standards regarding requests for changes to candidates’ data, while allowing flexibility in genuinely peculiar cases arising from the mobilisation process.

According to him, such flexibility would not compromise the integrity and credibility of JAMB’s records.

The registrar further disclosed that a new framework involving JAMB, NYSC and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) would soon be unveiled to make the process of effecting data changes more seamless.

The proposed collaboration is expected to improve coordination among the three agencies and reduce challenges associated with data discrepancies during the NYSC mobilisation process.

Professor Aina also requested the deployment of corps members to JAMB offices to serve as customer service representatives.

“We want to speak directly to the young people, we want to speak the language of young people, and we need other young people to help us do it,” he said.

“We want to build an army of customer service representatives by using corps members,” the registrar added. (LEADERSHIP)
