Faleke wearing Tinubu's signature cap
A group operating under the banner of the Kogi East APC Elites Forum has called on APC chieftain James Faleke and other party stakeholders to allow members in Kogi, particularly those in Kogi East Senatorial District, to determine their political future through established democratic processes.
The group made the appeal during a press conference on Monday, where it stressed the need for internal democracy and cautioned against actions that could undermine party unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the forum, APC members in Kogi should be allowed to resolve issues relating to the party’s senatorial candidacy without undue influence from outside the district.
The group also declared its support for Chief Joe Erico, describing him as the preferred choice of many stakeholders within Kogi East.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, members expressed concern over what they described as attempts by individuals outside the district to influence political decisions in Kogi East, urging all interested parties to respect the views and choices of local party members.
“Kogi East possesses capable leaders, experienced party elders and a vibrant grassroots structure fully capable of determining its political future,” the group stated.
It added that the eventual choice of who represents Kogi East should reflect the wishes of APC members and stakeholders in the district.
The forum maintained that adherence to internal democracy remains essential to the unity and electoral success of the APC, stressing that outcomes reached through recognised party processes should be respected by all stakeholders.
“Our purpose is simple and clear: to reaffirm our collective support for Chief Joe Erico, whom we recognise as the candidate who emerged through the accepted democratic process,” the group said.
The forum further appealed to the national leadership of the APC to ensure fairness, transparency, and justice in the handling of party affairs, while urging members across Kogi East to remain peaceful, united, and committed to the party’s growth and success.
