Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in several states on Thursday secured their party’s governorship tickets for the 2027 general elections, following consensus affirmations and endorsements by delegates and party stakeholders.
In Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf emerged as the APC consensus candidate after party leaders and delegates adopted him unopposed during the party congress held at Sani Abacha Stadium.
Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, who moved the motion for Yusuf’s adoption, said the governor had demonstrated commitment to Kano’s development and deserved a second term.
Accepting the endorsement, Yusuf thanked party members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain projects in education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and infrastructure.
Similarly, in Kebbi State, Governor Nasir Idris secured unanimous endorsement from delegates across the state’s 225 wards during the APC governorship primary in Birnin Kebbi.
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Abdulmalik Mahmud, declared Idris the duly elected candidate, describing the exercise as a reflection of unity within the party.
Idris, in his acceptance speech, promised to consolidate on his administration’s achievements through more people-oriented projects and inclusive governance.
In Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani emerged as the APC governorship candidate after polling 459,393 affirmation votes at the party’s primary election.
Chairman of the Kaduna APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee, Hafiz Kawu, described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, adding that it reflected growing unity within the ruling party.
Sani said the endorsement represented a renewed mandate to deepen inclusive governance, strengthen security and accelerate development across the state.
Governor Umar Namadi also secured affirmation as the APC consensus governorship candidate in Jigawa State during the party’s consensus exercise in Dutse.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Isa Sadik-Achida, said the affirmation followed APC guidelines requiring delegates to endorse a sole aspirant through a voice vote.
Namadi thanked party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, promising to continue ongoing development projects across the state.
In Niger State, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago emerged as the APC’s unopposed governorship candidate during the primary election held at the party secretariat in Minna.
Chairman of the APC electoral committee, Danlami Abubakar, said Bago satisfied all nomination requirements and enjoyed overwhelming support from party members.
Bago assured party faithful that his administration would continue to prioritise development and reconciliation within the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Also, in Zamfara State, Governor Dauda Lawal was affirmed as the APC consensus governorship candidate through a voice vote conducted by delegates in Gusau.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the Governorship Consensus Exercise, Baba Galadima-Uba, said the process complied with provisions of the Electoral Act and APC guidelines. (Daily Trust)
