Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa East Senatorial District have resolved to zone the party’s 2027 senatorial ticket to Brass Constituency II and the 2031 ticket to Nembe Constituency II as part of efforts to promote equity, fairness and political inclusion in the district.
The resolution was reached during a strategic meeting of party leaders from Ogbia, Nembe and Brass Local Government Areas held at the Yenagoa residence of the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, Alabh George Turnah, and presided over by the Bayelsa East Senatorial District Vice Chairman of the party, Andy West Majors.
According to the stakeholders, the zoning arrangement was adopted to ensure balanced political representation and sustain peace and unity within the senatorial district.
The leaders explained that the district’s senatorial seat rotation had followed what they described as a stable progression since 1999, beginning with Melford Okilo from Ogbia Constituency I, followed by Inatimi Spiff of Brass Constituency I and Nimi Barigha Amange of Nembe Constituency I.
They noted that the rotation later returned to Ogbia with Clever Ikisikpo of Ogbia Constituency III before moving to Brass through Ben Murray-Bruce of Brass Constituency III and then to Nembe with Degi Ereminyo of Nembe Constituency III.
The stakeholders said the current senator representing Bayelsa East, Benson Agadaga, is from Ogbia Constituency II, making it appropriate for Brass Constituency II to produce the party’s candidate in 2027 and Nembe Constituency II in 2031.
The meeting further resolved that from 2035, the PDP senatorial ticket in Bayelsa East would no longer be subjected to zoning or rotation, adding that competence, performance and capacity for effective representation would determine future candidates.
The stakeholders described the decision as the beginning of a new political era focused on merit, development and quality representation in the district.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to the unity and growth of the PDP in Bayelsa East and commended Turnah for what they described as inclusive and purposeful leadership in the state.
The statement was signed by Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, Media Assistant to the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman, on May 19, 2026.
