An Aba-based businessman, Kingsley Njoku, his wife and their child cheated death when they miraculously survived a barrage of gunshots from gunmen suspected to be kidnappers.
Narrating their ordeal, Njoku, a member of the John 3:16 Ministry in Aba, Abia State, said they had attended a service at the ministry, after which they went for a family meeting.
Njoku said that after the meeting, they were driving home in his sport utility vehicle (SUV) around 8 pm when, on reaching the Obuzor Primary School area of Osisioma, six young men wearing military camouflage and riding on three motorcycles overtook their vehicle and flagged them down.
The businessman said the hoodlums approached him on the driver’s side and asked him to come down and allow them to drive away with his wife and child, but he refused.
“My refusing to come down infuriated the gunmen and they opened fire on the three of us inside the vehicle: myself, my wife and our child.
“My wife became so afraid and was pressurising me to get down, but I refused, telling her if no member of the John 3:16 Ministry was kidnapped when Aba was under the siege of kidnappers, it’s not now anybody will kidnap me or any member of my family.”
Njoku said when the gunman who had blocked his vehicle came to try his own gun on him, the others having failed, he saw a little opportunity and zoomed off in his SUV.
“I knew within me that the hoodlums would not do me anything, moreover when it was not long I came out from our ministry where the founder, Brother Samuel Okonkwo Ajayi, had prayed for us.”
He recalled an Incident during the heyday of kidnapping in Aba, when one of the police drivers of the then governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, was abducted in Aba, and police authorities approached Bro. Samuel to assist in using spiritual powers to locate the policeman.
Njoku said after praying, the location where the police inspector was kept in a house in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state was revealed to the man of God, which led to the rescue of the kidnapped police officer.
The businessman said with such in mind, the same spirit made him withstand the gunmen.
Reports have it that there was pandemonium in the area during the incident as people scampered for safety when they heard the gunshots.
The gunmen were said to have later fled unchallenged. (Daily Sun)
