Commissioner of Police Mamman Bitrus Giwa
By STANLEY NWANOSIKE
The Police Command in Enugu State has debunked a social media video purporting unlawful detention and killing of suspects in the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, Enugu.
The Command’s Spokesman, SP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Monday in Enugu, said that no such incident had occurred in any of its units.
According to Ndukwe, the command is aware of a viral video alleging unlawful detention and killing of suspects in the SWAT Unit, Enugu, which is categorical falsehood and misinformation.
The spokesman said that preliminary findings showed that the video was misleading, unverified, and deliberately intended to misinform the public and undermine confidence in the police.
He reiterated that all suspects in custody were treated in accordance with the law and with due respect for their fundamental human rights.
Ndukwe noted that there was no record of extrajudicial killing or unlawful detention as alleged.
The Commissioner of Police in thestate, Mr Mamman Giwa, urged the public to disregard the video and refrain from sharing unverified content capable of inciting fear or eroding trust in law enforcement.
The commissioner advised residents to rely on official police communication channels for accurate information.
He further reaffirmed the command’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law; while assuring residents of its continued dedication to the protection of lives and property. (NAN)
