CP Orutugu addressing officers
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has re-echoed the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on zero tolerance for corruption and unprofessional conduct among officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
Orutugu stated this during a briefing with officers at the Command Headquarters, Awka on Wednesday, noting that the Police Force belongs to all Nigerians, hence, must remain accountable to the people.
He emphasized the need for strict adherence to professional ethics, discipline, and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
While warning that the Command will not tolerate any form of misconduct, including extortion, abuse of office, and other unprofessional acts capable of undermining public trust and confidence in the Police, the CP stressed that any officer found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action in line with extant regulations.
He said: "The Presidential order on the stoppage and withdrawal of Police personnel from unauthorized VIP protection duties remains in force.
"He directed strict compliance by all officers."
Orutugu further cautioned against the misuse of Police personnel for private engagements not officially approved, saying that defaulters will be sanctioned accordingly.
The Commissioner also reiterated the importance of people-friendly policing, respect for human rights, and professionalism in security service delivery, in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
He added: "The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property while upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability."
