Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab
The Lagos State Government says it arrested four suspects during a clean-up operation under the Falomo Bridge in the Ikoyi area of the state, as part of efforts to curb illegal trading in the area.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement shared on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Wednesday.
Wahab stated that the operation took place late on Tuesday night, one day after authorities received reports that street traders had returned to the location previously cleared on March 30, 2026.
At about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce carried out a follow-up clean-up operation at Falomo Under Bridge. This followed reports, received the previous day, that street traders had returned to the area, which had been cleared on March 30, 2026.
“Our operatives revisited the location, dislodged the traders, and restored order in the area. Four suspects were arrested during the operation and will be charged in court accordingly.
“We will continue to monitor the location and other parts of the state to ensure compliance and prevent a recurrence.”
The operation reflects the state government’s ongoing efforts to enforce environmental regulations and maintain public order in key parts of the city. Authorities say surveillance will be intensified to deter a return of illegal activities at the site. (The PUNCH)
