The wife of Delta State content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, has expressed confidence that her husband will be freed from the rape allegation involving the late 20-year-old Favour Agbro.

The woman, whose name was not disclosed, said that she would continue to stand by Ogbonna, insisting that she believed he did not rape Agbro despite the allegation against him.

Forty-year-old Ogbonna was arrested by the Delta State Police Command over allegations surrounding Agbro, who later died after ingesting a toxic substance.

The police said the content creator allegedly invited the young woman to Asaba under the guise of teaching her content creation before taking her to a hotel, where he allegedly raped and physically assaulted her.

Speaking in a video shared on Ogbonna’s social media page on Monday, his wife said she had followed developments surrounding the case before deciding to speak publicly.

She said, “I am going to defend him. I am going to defend him.

“Even if the heavens and the earth allow him to go in for this matter, I will still defend him.“If nobody believes him, I… I believe him. 100%.

“Even if I can’t defend it, even if I can’t prove it, I believe him.

“Yes. I believe him 100%.”

The woman said she had lived with Ogbonna for eight years and claimed that forcing himself on a woman was not something she had known him to do.

She said, “I have been with him. At least, I have lived in this house with him for eight solid years.

“In all the things I know he can do, forcing himself on a woman is something I have never heard or sensed of him.”

The wife had previously denied the rape allegation, saying her husband only had an affair with Agbro. Her claim has not been established by a court.

“Odogwu Asaba did not kill anybody. I know my husband…. Odogwu Asaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaba only had an affair with the girl,” she said In an earlier video.

She also criticised those who, according to her, expected her to abandon her husband because of the allegations.

“Like now, my husband will be in trouble, and I’ll be thinking about what women will say. Like, because they are going to see me and say, ‘Pick me.’

“And I will let a man that gave me four healthy children. I can’t abandon him because of what strangers will talk.”

The woman said she was committed to protecting her children and maintaining their relationship with their father.

“I am going to fight for the man that made me a mother, even if I am no longer with him tomorrow. He occupies a place that I made sure no other man would take.

“He gave me four healthy children, and I made sure I have all my children with one man, so that nobody, no man born of a woman, will ever be the father of my child again.”

She said she did not believe separating her children from their father was necessary, adding that she had no reason to do so if she was not being harmed.

“When my life is not threatened. Yes. He doesn’t strangle me.

“ He doesn’t starve. My children have everything they need, within his own capacity.

“I am happy. He is happy. The kids are happy.

“I have my flaws. He has his own flaws.

“I manage him where he is not good. He manages me where I am not good.”

The woman also questioned the emphasis placed on her husband’s alleged sexual relationship with Agbro, arguing that the more serious rape allegation should be established with evidence.

“So all this whole story they are telling about late February, the only thing I should be listening to is that he slept with the girl, as a married man.

“I shouldn’t be thinking about whether he really did what they said he did.”

She said Ogbonna had not denied having a relationship with Agbro but had denied forcing himself on her.

“He didn’t deny getting involved with the girl. Yes. But the only thing he denied is forcing himself on the girl,” she said.

The woman said she had chosen to believe her husband based on her knowledge of him.

“He is going to come out. Definitely. He will come out.

“To come and enjoy the blessings God has prepared for him. He is going to come out and continue building a name for himself.”

She also urged people seeking marriage partners to prioritise character rather than social media perceptions.

The wife also said she was not concerned about criticism over her decision to stand by Ogbonna.

“I don’t care. I don’t care. I don’t listen to what people say.”

The controversy began after allegations emerged involving Agbro, who was said to have travelled to Asaba after Ogbonna allegedly offered to mentor her in content creation. The Delta State Police Command later confirmed Ogbonna’s arrest and said investigations were ongoing.

Ogbonna’s wife has maintained that her husband did not rape Agbro and has urged the public not to treat social media claims as a substitute for due process. (The PUNCH)
