The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an expansion of its train services nationwide as part of special arrangements to ease passenger movement during the Easter holiday period.
In a statement signed by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the corporation said additional trips have been introduced on key routes to accommodate the anticipated surge in travel.
On the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) corridor, three trips will operate on Thursday, April 2, 2026. From the Mobolaji Johnson Station in Ebute Metta, Lagos, trains will depart at 7:45 a.m., 1:40 p.m., and 4:00 p.m., while departures from Obafemi Awolowo Station, Moniya in Ibadan are scheduled for 8:00 a.m., 10:50 a.m., and 4:30 p.m.
In a notable development, the NRC also announced a special free train service on the narrow-gauge corridor between Lagos and Osogbo. The service, sponsored by the Osun State Government, will depart Iddo Station, Lagos, on Friday, April 3, at 10:00 a.m., with a return trip from Osogbo on Monday, April 6, at the same time.
The Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) will maintain its regular schedule, operating two trips on Thursdays and three daily trips from Friday through Monday, covering morning, mid-day, and afternoon services between Idu and Rigasa.
Similarly, the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will continue its routine operations, running daily except Thursdays, which are reserved for maintenance. Trains from Warri to Itakpe operate on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 8:00 a.m., while return trips from Itakpe to Warri run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 12:00 noon.
the Eastern corridor, the Port Harcourt-Aba service will also maintain its regular timetable, with departures at 8:00 a.m. from Port Harcourt and 3:00 p.m. from Aba.
The NRC assured passengers of its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and efficient services across all routes. It advised travellers to plan ahead, arrive early at stations, and adhere strictly to ticketing and security procedures.
The corporation also wished passengers a peaceful and enjoyable Easter celebration, while encouraging continued patronage of rail transport as a dependable means of travel. (BusinessDay)
