The United States Secret Service has announced that applications are now open for individuals seeking to join its Uniformed Division, offering a recruitment incentive of up to $75,000 for successful candidates.
The announcement was made through a recruitment notice shared on the agency’s official page on X on Monday, outlining eligibility requirements and the responsibilities of prospective officers.
According to the agency, applicants must be U.S. citizens aged between 20 and 40, possess a valid driver’s licence, pass medical and background checks, and qualify for a Top Secret security clearance. Eligible candidates may have acquired citizenship by birth in the United States, through U.S. citizen parents, or through naturalisation.
Officers in the Secret Service Uniformed Division are tasked with protecting key government facilities and locations secured for Secret Service protectees. These include the White House, the Vice President’s residence at the United States Naval Observatory, the United States Department of the Treasury Building, as well as foreign diplomatic missions in Washington, D.C.
They may also support protective operations involving the President of the United States, the Vice President, and visiting foreign leaders, and serve in specialised units such as Counter Sniper teams, Emergency Response teams, and K-9 units.
The recruitment process will involve entrance examinations, interviews, background investigations, and physical fitness tests. Successful applicants must complete 13 weeks of training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, followed by 18 weeks of specialised training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Maryland.
The $75,000 recruitment incentive will be paid in instalments over four years, tied to completion of training and continued service with the agency.
New recruits will earn annual salaries ranging from $77,987 to $134,165, depending on experience and career progression, as the Secret Service continues efforts to strengthen its workforce responsible for protecting critical U.S. government facilities and national leaders. (The PUNCH)
