Education Minister, Dr Alausa
The Federal Government has announced plans to reward outstanding teachers during the 2026 teachers’ summit.
Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, who conveyed this in a statement on Saturday in Abuja, said the Ministry has accordingly organised Nigeria Teachers’ Summit 2026, scheduled to hold from 27th to 28th January 2026, as part of sustained national efforts to revamp teaching profession.
She disclosed that the platform would be used to recognise and celebrate outstanding teachers nationwide, including the conferment of awards on Best Performing Teachers across the six geopolitical zones and the Overall Best Performing Teacher in Nigeria.
She reaffirmed commitment towards repositioning teaching profession, noting that teachers are at the heart of education reform and national development.
The Summit, themed “Empowering Teachers, Strengthening the System: A National Agenda for Education Transformation and Sustainability,” would convene teachers, policymakers, education administrators, legislators, development partners, civil society organisations, the private sector, parents, the media and other key stakeholders to deliberate on practical strategies for improving teacher welfare, professionalism, instructional quality and learning outcomes across the country.
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony, scheduled to hold at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.
According to the statement, the ceremony would feature special remarks by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, and Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, alongside other senior government officials and prominent education stakeholders.
She stated: “This initiative underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring dignity to the teaching profession, rewarding excellence, and motivating teachers as critical drivers of national development.
“The Summit will also witness the official launch of the Edurevamp Online Teacher Professional Development Portal, a strategic digital platform designed to expand access to continuous professional learning, skills enhancement and career development opportunities for teachers across Nigeria
“In addition, the programme will feature high-level plenary sessions, panel discussions and expert presentations focusing on teacher welfare and wellbeing, professional capacity development, curriculum relevance in a rapidly changing world, innovative pedagogical approaches, and the integration of technology in teaching and learning.
“Renowned scholars, policymakers, practitioners and development partners are expected to contribute to solution-driven engagements.
Activities will continue on Wednesday, 28th January 2026, at the National Universities Commission (NUC) Hall, with focused discussions on education reforms, teacher regulation, curriculum responsiveness and sustainable learning outcomes.
“The Summit will culminate in the presentation and adoption of a Communiqué, outlining actionable recommendations to guide future teacher-focused policies and reforms
“The Federal Ministry of Education invites teachers, education stakeholders, development partners, parents, the media and the general public to attend physically, tune in live, or join online, and be part of shaping the future of teaching and education delivery in Nigeria
“The Ministry reiterates that no education system can rise above the quality of its teachers, and reaffirms its unwavering commitment to empowering educators, strengthening institutions and building a sustainable, inclusive and globally competitive education system for the nation,” Boriowo stated.
