Ethan Nwaneri scored on his Marseille debut a day after joining from Arsenal on loan as Roberto de Zerbi's side beat Lens in Ligue 1.

The 18-year-old midfielder agreed to spend the rest of the season on loanin southern France after failing to start a Premier League match this campaign.

Nwaneri signed a new contract in the summer until 2030 after impressing last season, but has found minutes harder to come by since the summer signings of Noni Madueke for £48.5m and Eberechi Eze for £67m.

He doubled Marseille's lead in the 13th minute at a boisterous Stade Velodrome with a curled left-footed shot into the bottom corner from just inside the D.

Algeria striker Amine Gouiri put the home side ahead in the third minute from close range after bundling his way into the penalty area, before adding a third in the 75th minute.

Nineteen-year-old substitute Rayan Fofana pulled one back for Lens late on with a neat finish.

Victory means third-place Marseille move within five points of Lens in second, seven behind leaders Paris St-Germain. (BBC)
