Uduaghan tasks FG on statistical data for health sector, bags Fellowship of Post-Graduate Medical College

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has called on the Federal Government to provide adequate statistical data on healthcare in the country.

He made the call yesterday at Ijanikin, Lagos, during the convocation ceremony of the National Post-Graduate Medical College of Nigeria, saying that adequate statistics on the health sector is required to enhance the provision good healthcare.

According to him, the dearth of statistical data in the country especially in the health sector is a major hindrance to the provision of infrastructure, services and development in general.

Uduaghan appealed to the Federal Office of Statistics and the Federal Government to provide adequate data on the nation’s health needs to guarantee good healthcare for the people.

The governor, who was honoured with a Fellowship of the Post-Graduate Medical College (FNMC), appealed to individuals and groups to sensitise and mobilise their communities on the advantages of keeping a clean environment.

“Most of the diseases we suffer from today could be avoided if our people and communities keep a clean environment,” he stated.

Dr Uduaghan announced the sponsorship of the one-year foreign training of graduates of the College of Delta State origin.

The governor was honoured alongside senior medical practitioners who distinguished themselves in the medical practice in the country.

Presenting the award, the President, National Post-Graduate Medical College of Nigeria, Dr. Victor Wakwe, explained that Governor Uduaghan was awarded honourary Fellowship of the Institution for the strides in the health sector in Delta State and for supporting healthcare bodies in the country.

Wakwe noted the provision of world class facilities in hospitals across the state and subsidy for kidney treatment, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging machines as well as tele-radiological services at the State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.

He also commended the state on the maternal and child healthcare programme which he adjudged the best in the country.
