The Olivet Baptist Senior High School, Oyo
By CHARLES IWUOHA
The Oyo Baptist Conference has urged the Oyo State Government to immediately reverse the disarticulation of Olivet Baptist Senior High School.
It was reacting to the disarticulation of the junior school, which was divided on September 15, 2025 into Junior School 1 and Junior School 2, and the senior school’s disarticulation announced on December 23, 2025.
It noted that on December 30, 2025, Mrs. Adejumobi was named Principal of Senior School 2, saying that Mrs. Adejumobi is neither an Olivetian nor a Baptist as she is a member of Redeemer Church.
According to the school management, in line with the founding vision of the institution, “We respectfully request that any principal should be an alumnus of the institution and of Baptist extraction.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Rec'd Tella Benjamin, President Oyo Baptist Conference also seek the intervention of the Commissioner for Education in Oyo state on the matter.
"While we remain committed to peace, we will not remain silent if pushed beyond reasonable limits. We are not second-class citizens in our nation, and such treatment would not be tolerated in any Muslim school.
The management alleged that the disarticulation was carried out under the directive of the Permanent Secretary/Tutor-General, Oyo Zone, Mrs. F. I. Ayantunde.
The statement further urged that the Islamic Religious Studies (IRS) department be removed from Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo.
"This would reduce the proportion of Muslim teaching staff and prevent the use of IRS instruction to foster sentiments contrary to the Christian faith, including the construction of mosques on our premises.
"It is inequitable for such actions to be taken in a Baptist institution when similar measures are not applied to Muslim schools in Oyo. We request that the disarticulation of Olivet should be reversed,” the statement said.
