Obiano grants amnesty to 9 prisoners, says recession will soon be over

The Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano has granted amnesty to nine convicts in prison in commemoration of the 56th anniversary of the country’s Independence.

The event which took place yesterday at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme square in Awka, Anambra state, appeared low keyed but attracted the presence of traditional rulers, speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Rita Maduagwu, among others.
Addressing the people that gathered for the event, Obiano said the release of the nine beneficiaries of the amnesty by his administration was with immediate effect.
He said that the present economic situation in the country does not call for blame and assured the citizen’s of the state that soon the country would come out of the economic recession.
He added, “There is no cause for alarm. Anambra State government is doing everything possible to alleviate the sufferings of the people in this hardship.
“The government is aware of the situation and the Federal Government is not relenting either, I want to assure you that everything will be alright soon.”
He further observed that the security situation in the land was giving everybody concern saying that his administration was more than ever, poised to secure the lives and property of its citizenry.
The Governor however, left the Ekwueme square after his address while the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs. Maduagwu, took salute of the march past by different schools in the state.
