No fewer than five people have been confirmed dead, while 13 others sustained injuries on Sunday following a road crash at Zangzat Roundabout in Langtang North Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
Our correspondent gathered that the accident, which occurred around 3 a.m., involved a trailer conveying paddy rice and passengers travelling from Shendam Local Government Area to Jos.
The Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Area, Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem, confirmed the incident in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Kum Precious Yakubu.
He said, “The chairman received with deep concern the report of a fatal road traffic accident that occurred at Zangzat Roundabout, Langtang, involving a trailer conveying paddy rice and marketers from Shendam to Jos through Langtang.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the accident involved a Plateau State–registered vehicle with plate number JJN 383 YZ and was caused by speeding and overloading. The incident led to the tragic loss of five lives, while about thirteen persons sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims are currently receiving medical attention at the General Hospital, Langtang.
“Upon receiving the report, the Executive Chairman immediately directed a team from the Local Government Council to visit the scene of the accident and the hospital to assess the situation, sympathise with the victims, and ascertain their immediate needs.
The chairman further expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy and full recovery.
The council also urged drivers, transporters, marketers, and commuters to strictly adhere to speed limits, avoid overloading, and always prioritise safety on the roads. (Weekend Trust)
