CP Femi Haruna, Oyo State Commissioner of Police
A man has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in Ibadan, the State capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Ayanlade Olayinka, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said in a statement on Saturday that the incident occurred in Elebu, which falls under the Oke Alaro Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to him, the arrest reinforced the commitment of the command to protecting vulnerable persons and tackling sexual and gender-based violence.
Investigation, he added, revealed that the eight-year-old girl told her father that she was feeling pain in her private part and that she had been sexually violated, purportedly by their 27-year-old neighbour, Olaitan Oloyede, sometime in October 2025.
The spokesperson stated that, immediately the matter was reported, the Oke Alaro Police Division commenced necessary inquiries promptly.
“Detectives from Oke Alaro Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, took the victim to the hospital for medical examination, treatment, and rehabilitation, where she is currently receiving the necessary care and support.
“Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested, placed in lawful custody, and is cooperating with the investigation, allowing the police to proceed with further inquiries,” the statement read in part.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Femi Haruna, expressed strong displeasure over the act and appreciated the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his guidance in strengthening intelligence-led policing and the protection of vulnerable persons.
Haruna directed that the case be transferred to the State CID Gender Desk for discreet investigation, to ensure a thorough and professional handling of the matter.
The command reiterated its zero tolerance for sexual and gender-based violence, particularly against children, and urges parents, guardians, and members of the public to promptly report any suspected abuse to the nearest police station.
“The command remains steadfast in its commitment to ridding Oyo State of violent crimes and ensuring justice for all victims,” the statement said. (The Sun)
